Jim Nicolson is one of the founding members of Tech Painting. He and Scott Burr met while in college and have been working together almost ever since. Jim has a great deal of experience in residential painting and historic restoration. During his twenty year tenure with the company he worked as a crew foreman for nearly 17 years, and as a result has a clear understanding of customers' needs and the correct procedures for producing excellent work. Dinner Meeting at Clyde's of Tyson's Corner

Topic:  Faux Finishing

Speakers:  Lynn Whiteley of Whiteley Design Studios, Jolene Hemeon of Hemeon Studios, Meg Hosler of Interior Illusions and Kate Nagle of Elegant Faux Finishes by Meg

We have 4 great faux finishing companies who are members of the PDCA Washington Metro Chapter and they have offered to make the presentation on Faux Finishing at the PDCA dinner meeting Tuesday, September 20, 2012 at Clyde's of Tyson's Corner.  Dinner begins at 6pm followed immediately with the faux presentation.  Cash bar will open around 5:30pm.

 

Some of the faux finishes that will be presented include:  Italian Plaster, murals, trompe l'oeil, shimmering plaster, lusterstone, marbleizing and more

 

Lynn Whiteley is owner of Whiteley Design Studios and received his bachelors of fine art in 1989 at Oklahoma Baptist University.  He trained under Faux Artist Martin Allen Hirsch at the Decorative Finishes Studio.  He constantly keeps his skill level up by continuous study under such masters as Kelly S. King, Gary Lord, Nicola Vigini, Melanie Royals as well as Mike MacNeil and Pierre Finkelstein.  His journey as a professional artist has included painting murals for churches, sign, desktop and web design as well as stained glass artistry for the Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, Missouri.

 

Kate Nagle of Interior Illusions earned a BA in Fine Arts from State University of New York.  She has studied with several international masters in advanced painting techniques.  Kate is accomplished in figure painting, landscapes, realistic marbling and trompe l'oeil techniques.  Kate was recognized as the NSO 2005 recipient of the Elizabeth Warnock Prize for Excellence in the Decorative Arts in recognition of her artistic work.

 

Meg Hosler, owner of Elegant Faux Finshes by Meg is a Certified Professional Faux Finisher by Paint and Decorating Retailers Assocation & Faux Finisher Magazine.  She is licensed in Faux Effects professional prodcuts and Certified in Designer Wall Finishes including LusterStone, Venetian Plasters, and Authentic Italian Venetian Plasters.  She has also studied with more than 25 World Class Master Decorative Artisits (MDA) and Certified Decorative Artisits (CDA)

 

Jolene Hemeon is one of five certified teachers in the U.S. at the School of Italian Plasters (Studied in Italy); Russian Academy of Fine Art, Washington DC; North Shore Arts Association, Gloucester, MA; Bachelor of Science, Brigham Young University.  For years she studied fine art under the direction of Russian Master Painter, Natasha Mokina, as well as the North Shore Arts Association in Gloucester. Jolene is an accomplished portrait and landscape artist and also brings this talent to bear in her residential and commercial murals.

TOPIC:  "Motivational DNA: Accelerate your success by understanding what motivates Customers, Employees and Family". based on Tamara Lowe's NY Times Bestseller.

The class will cover:  The 4 Laws of Motivation; You'll learn what your own and others DNA is and what motivates them.

Understand how to better communicate with employees, coworkers, bosses, and especially your customers.
 
How to recognize what DNA types are in others
 
Develop better more motivated employees, coworkers and even your boss!
 
Develop better more motivated children, family members and friends.

 

SPEAKER:  Tom Tolento - Tom has been a Business Professional for 30 years with experience in Sales, Management, Human Resources, Training, Quality Management, P&L, Business Planning and Financial Management. Accepting the Vice President of Sales position for McCormick Paint Works in 2009, Tom brings his sales success to the largest independently owned paint company on the East Coast. Tom spent time at Nolan Consulting Group after spending his entire career with The Sherwin Williams Company and most recently, MAB Paints. He's held positions in nearly every capacity including Store Management, Sales, District & Regional Management and Vice President of Sales. Having managed upwards of over $150 million in business and more than 300 people at the height of his responsibilities, Tom achieved the highest level of awards and recognition with Sherwin Williams, winning the President's Club twice, The Circle of Excellence 5 times and the prestigious Cadillac Award twice. His experience includes sales and management success in New England, Metro New Jersey and New York area, the Mid-Atlantic states from Delaware to Virginia and for the past 11 years managed the entire Metro Philadelphia market. He has been actively involved in AMA & PDCA for over 25 years, has certifications from many AMA and National Training programs and completed the Harvard Business School on Negotiation for Executives course. Heading up a Selling Skills workshop for the past 10 years, Tom has taught thousands of new sales people in sales, managment and business development covering the entire East Coast, Canada and Puerto Rico.  Tom's public speaking includes doing several presentations on all sales and business issues to groups  as small as a dozen to those totaling nearly a thousand at a time. Tom and his wife Pat live in the Washington, DC area as well as commute to their beach home in Warwick, Rhode Island. They have two boys, Tom who is an EMT and pursuing a career as a firefighter and Jim, who will enter his sophomore year of a 5 year Masters Degree Program in Architecture at the University of Louisiana.

11th Annual PDCA Golf Tournament will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at PB Dye Golf Course in Ijamsville, MD. 8:30am Shotgun

Cost is $125 per person or $450 per foursome.

$25,000 cash for the Hole-In-One (on designated hole)
